Education for Sustainability

Education for Sustainability , CHEF working group

With the UN에볼루션 카지노 웹사이트s IPPC estimating that global warming is headed for 3°C, instead of the 1.5°C promised in the Paris agreement, the question of how to make not just a green but a just transition to a sustainable world is ever more urgent. Successive UN conferences, from the meeting in Rio in 1992 to the 2015 Sustainable Development Summit (with 17 SDGs) have all pointed to the importance of higher education in equipping students to change the world. UNESCO has pointed to the importance of students not just gaining the necessary scientific knowledge but also the personal skills and organisational capacities to bring about change.

This working group seeks to collaborate with other organisations in Denmark and internationally that are developing education for sustainability. Notably we are collaborating with the Danish national partnership of 80 organisations called Education for Sustainable Development (UBU) which has garnered political support and funding from a consortium of foundations (Novo Nordisk, Nordea, Villum and Grundfos) to introduce education for sustainability across the education sector. We are working with the university panel, which is chaired by the Danish Students Union and will hold 3 CHEF/UBU webinars bringing together students, staff, and leaders to share initiatives and mobilise action in higher education.

The working group is informed by international research on education for a green and just transition. Notably, we are inspired by the Nordic Research Network for Environmental and sustainability education () and the European Association for Education Research Network on Environmental and Sustainability Education Research ().

Activities

Autumn 2024-Spring 2025

CHEF/UBU Webinar 1: Students에볼루션 카지노 웹사이트 activism for education for sustainability (9 December 2024 at 에볼루션카지노, Copenhagen and online).
The aims are to review the history of student activism (which itself kickstarted the Danish national partnership for Education for Sustainable Development, UBU), invite a full range of student groups to share their current activities, draw on insights from student-led higher education programmes elsewhere in Europe, and explore possible new initiatives, e.g. for student-led courses in Denmark, and how they can be supported by UBU.

CHEF Talk: International Research on Education for Sustainability (February. Date TBA)

How higher education can equip students with the knowledge and skills to create the green and just transition to a sustainable world is an issue that is increasingly important on international agendas.  This webinar will invite colleagues from Nordic and UNESCO networks to give an international perspective on how universities and education researchers  address issues and expectations related  to sustainability agendas.

CHEF/UBU Webinar 2: Lecturers에볼루션 카지노 웹사이트 initiatives on education for sustainability (Spring 2025 at 에볼루션카지노, Copenhagen and online).
In preparation for this webinar, CHEF is conducting a mapping exercise to find out who is teaching about sustainability in different disciplines and across different universities in Denmark. Lecturers will then be invited to share their approaches and practices. We will explore both disciplinary, inter-disciplinary and transdisciplinary approaches to knowledge, and the development of students에볼루션 카지노 웹사이트 capacities to envisage an alternative future, and the skills to organise and engage with other social actors to bring about change. The aim will be to define future action, for example, new forms of cross-disciplinary collaborations and didactics.

CHEF/UBU Webinar 3: Challenges faced by leaders (early summer 2025, tba).
Members of CHEF collaborated with the Royal Danish Academy of Sciences and Letters in a very successful conference for study board leaders and pro-deans for education on 23 October 2024. Issues were raised about how to develop student-led courses or cross-disciplinary courses within the government에볼루션 카지노 웹사이트s strict education frameworks, funding systems and performance measures for higher education. The Royal Academy will be reviewing that conference and next steps and CHEF/UBU have offered to collaborate in a follow up event.
